Diabetes Empowerment International is one of our favorite type 1 organizations and a long-time beneficiary of Cure Thrift. Their mission is to empower underserved adults living with type 1 diabetes by providing healthcare access, diabetes education, and job training. 
These hand-carved statues were made by Penina, a person living with type 1 diabetes and a beneficiary of the DEI programs in Kasese, Uganda. Penina made these statues through the job training program with DEI. Each statue depicts a different person with type 1 diabetes giving an injection of insulin. 100% of the sales from these statues will benefit Penina who contributes a portion back to the local diabetes association to support other patients and programs.
